By the way... this means that others ornithischians more recent than that one... would have kind of this feathers? Like the huge ornithischians of the late Cretaceous? Because I'm very surprise...
Well, the presence of feather-like structures in ornithischians might mean that feathers were a primitive character for all dinosaurs. Or maybe even a more ancient thing shared with pterosaurs (since they surely were fuzzy). And yes, I think everyone was quite surprised when Tianyulong was found. ^^
There are scaly skin impressions from some large ornithischians (as well as large theropods), so I would guess that most large dinosaurs had scales because they didn't need feathers for insulation. They might have had some feathers for display, however. Or for protection: the structures found on fossils of Tianyulong, Psittacosaurus and Beipiaosaurus look quite like porcupine quills.
