Description
Another Palaeoloxodon falconeri reconstruction, this time an adult male with the contemporary giant swan Cygnus falconeri.
P. falconeri had a clear sexual dimorphism, males being significantly, eh, less tiny than females, according to a new paper*. Males were slightly less than 100 cm tall at the shoulder and had fairly impressive tusks for their size. The giant swan was about a third larger than living mute swan (C. olor), making it taller though not heavier than the elephants.
