Red-billed quelea (Quelea quelea) is the world's most abundant species of bird, with an estimated population size of 10 billion. It migrates around southern Africa in huge, cloud-like flocks and has a rather annoying habit of emptying whole fields in moments. Hundreds of millions of these birds have been killed in population control attempts, with no visible success at all.

A quick illustration for a blog post: black marker and digital coloring.

Thanks. :) I'm always learning new things and it's nice to be able to share them with others who are interested. In real life, most people I know quickly get bored with my stories.

Its really nice to sea a bird doing so well. A lot of birds have gone extinct due to human activity and their extinction rate is second only to amphibians (If I remember correctly)

Now I'm imagining this bird doing a beer commercial...

I can imagine that, huge flocks of queleas landing on beer pints and drinking Carlsberg. Beer is liquid grain, after all.

This bird's badassery level is through the roof!

Weaver birds in general are pretty badass, I think. Other species, such as the village weaver, are also ridiculously abundant. If you ever visit Sub-Saharan Africa, weavers seem to be everywhere.
