Ocean Runner by Eurwentala Ocean Runner by Eurwentala
Thalassodromeus sethi, a particularly handsome pterosaur from the Early Cretaceous of what is now Brazil. It had a wingspan of about 4,5 metres, which isn't particularly big on pterosaur standards, but compared to modern birds, it's still huge.

Not much more to add. I'm definitely not acting like an adult tonight. It's midnight, I just ate so many cookies my stomach hurts, and instead of sleeping, I'm painting pterosaurs. Just because I can.

misnamed for a terrestrial predator that behaved like a terror bird.

Thalassodromeus sethi has a doubly unfortunate name. It probably wasn't ocean-going and the headgear that inspired it's species name did not belong to Seth (Egyptian god of desert and chaos) but Amun (quite fittingly, the god of wind). The authors just got confused with their Egyptian mythology.

I know. It is misnamed TWICE.

You're painting pterosaurs? I guess they're not ticklish!

I've spent five days drawing cacti and eating nothing but ice-cream sandwiches.
Adulthood is awesome.

I like the sepia-tone mixed media style you're using here.

Since when was paleoart a grownup pursuit? ;)

But this is absolutely GORGEOUS. I love the subtle striping and the blue of the crest. :)

Yeah, I didn't start my intense obsession until I was 14... I get strange looks all the time when I start rattling on about dinosaurs, but I don't care :D It's too boring being normal. :P

I think it's the best feeling ever to be genuinely obsessed with something interesting. I'm literally never bored. I wonder how those normal people tolerate it. :)

I only became really obsessed with paleontology when I was already at the university, about six years ago. Before that, I was equally interested in all sorts of biological topics. I still am, but paleontology now holds a special place.

Yeah, being obsessed with something that's constantly coming out with new discoveries is awesome. Never a boring day.

Yeah, I've known that I wanted to be in the biological sciences for quite some time, paleontology is just where I want to go now. I've always loved studying the skeletal system of stuff, and I think that's why paleontology is such a huge magnet for me. :)

Paleontology is wonderful (though I studied ecology and evolutionary biology instead). But I'm sure you do know there aren't a lot of jobs in paleontology, so it's not an easy career to get into.

Yeah, I'm aware. But that's not going to stop me from doing the best I can to get in. :)

I wish you all the luck in the world with that. :)

There aren't a lot of jobs in my field either, but I am lucky enough to make a living with freelance journalism and illustration at least for the moment.
