Fish, Fishapod, Tetrapod Tree by Eurwentala Fish, Fishapod, Tetrapod Tree by Eurwentala
Evolution of tetrapods for a magazine article.

The animals depicted are, from bottom to top, Eusthenopteron, Panderichthys, Tiktaalik, Acanthostega, Ichthyostega and Pederpes. I tried to depict them as independent lineages instead of the often misunderstood linear progression. I also pointed it out in the text itself for a couple of times.

I only included the best-known fossils and left all the isolated jaw bones and head parts out, because I didn't want to speculate too much.

That's the most up-to-date tetrapod tree I've ever seen, really great. It's just sad that we don't get such more recent discoveries taught in school, my biology teacher still tells us that no transitional fossils between Ichthyostega and coelacanth-like fish were found :(

A brilliant evolutionary tree (not ladder) which I really love. You are a very well-educated and highly competent artist, and I tip my hat to you. Your reconstructions are simply amazing. As Mechatherium said, you could be a really good science magazine illustrator: I think you would be perfect. I especially love the inclusion of Pederpes, from smack in the middle of "Romer's Gap" (first half of the Carboniferous being mostly devoid of tetrapod fossils, often pounced upon by creationists). I love your work, and I really think you should make more.

Thank you! I'm making more both during my work hours and free time. Since I'm also studying, making a thesis, writing articles and photographing, the time I spend drawing is unevitably limited. :)
