Some random examples among the evolutionary history of plants, not in any order at all.

From left to right and top to bottom. Top row: a collection of the earliest land plants, including Cooksonia and Zosterophyllum. The Jurassic ginkgo species G. huttoni, with narrower leaves but otherwise almost identical. A branch tip and a cone of Araucaria bidwillii. The earliest known flowering plant, Archaefructus, from early Cretaceous.
Bottom row: A collection of Carboniferous trees from the first forests, including tree ferns and tree horsetails. An early cycad. A random grass. A wild magnolia flower, and a collection of cyanobacteria, algae and an amoeba. And last, an example of what the earliest terrestrial insect-like creatures looked like.

Nice work, plants really don't get enough love. And the fact that you drew them is even better :).

Your welcome :aww:. As fare as I'm concerned, anyone who can draw them has some real skill. Because I've seen few nice looking plants in any kind of artwork or style.

Thank you, really. :)
I'm only beginning to seriously draw plants, but I hope to become better at it in time. With paleoart, the problem is you mostly have to draw ferns and cycads with pinnates leaves, and I'm hopelessly too lazy to do that properly.

I guess that's why ginkgoes are so popular in paleoart...

Did you put the things like cyanobacteria in it because not that they were necessarily plants, but also being organisms capale photosynthesis?

Mostly for that, and also because they live inside plants today, as chloroplasts.

These were made for sort of a timeline of evolution, where I tried to fit all the most important things from the last 700 million years, and some examples of what life looked like at different times. As the other side was mostly for large animals, this side had a few small organisms in addition to plants.
